Cupping therapy may have only gained national attention recently, but it has been used for over 3,000 years to treat various illnesses. In fact, cupping is listed in the Ebers Papyrus, an Egyptian medical document dating to circa 1550 B.C. Today, doctors and therapists utilize a refined form of cupping to alleviate musculoskeletal pain in addition to other benefits. Duncan Chiropractic Group's expert cupping specialists will relieve your pain and leave you feeling refreshed and rejuvenated.
What is Medical Cupping Therapy?
Cupping is a simple adjunct therapy for improving circulation and relieving pain. Our trained doctors or therapists place a plastic cup on the patient's back and use a vacuum pump to pressurize the cup. This produces a mild suction effect on the skin. The result is something of a "reverse massage" - rather than pushing your skin downwards, it is gently lifted up into the cups. This form of cupping is called "dry" cupping and/or "vacuum" cupping. It is painless and most patients actually find it quite relaxing. For clarification, we do not practice "wet" cupping.

Ultimately, cupping is a unique form of deep-tissue therapy with a broad range of benefits for any patient. Our doctors and therapists are highly-trained to administer this treatment for maximum pain relief and muscle relaxation. It is usually performed as an adjunct treatment to chiropractic therapy.
Why Choose Duncan for Cupping Therapy?
Our in-house cupping expert, Dr. Mike Hilton, learned medical cupping therapy directly from Team USA sports medicine. To elaborate, Dr. Hilton studied cupping therapy as provided by the doctors and trainers during his volunteer rotation at the US Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs. Our doctors now use the same equipment and methodology that team USA famously used on US Olympic athletes during the Rio Summer Games in 2016.
